- MB loves to sing but is not a soloist. She's a good dancer, an excellent speller, and an avid photographer. Most of her clothes are bought at the thrift shop. She had an old car and (had) an old dog. Now pet-free and using public transportation. Reads mostly memoirs and books about language, enjoys living alone, though if she had more money she'd hire a maid to clean up the place more often. MB has lived in Memphis and in New Jersey, but has been in St. Louis, Missouri since 1976. One of her friends told her she "eats like a Jersey Mule".

Thanks fot the links for the architecture in Brasilia. Was Oscar Niemeyer also involved with the New York State capital complex in Albany?
Brasilia is a fascinating city. It was built with aesthetics in mind, not people, so pedestrians have ended up suffering. I can't remember the statistic, but pedestrian deaths are extremely high there. Beautiful but deadly. Brasilia should be a James bond chick.

schmutzie: Brasília is actually one of the safer cities in Brazil for pedestrians, and is known as one of the three in the whole country where the crosswalks don't need lights because you can walk into them and cars will actually stop for you - do watch out for visitors, tho, as many of them don't know this "traffic rule". That said, if many pedestrians are killed by accidents, it is, if I may say this without sounding cruel, pretty much their own fault: there are lots of crosswalks and underpasses, and yet many pedestrians don't use them, especially, it seems on high traffic streets, and sometimes even the major highway that passes through the center of the city.
But it is a beautiful city, and a World Heritage Site, to boot.
